“There are so many changes, advancements and challenges in the health and wellbeing sector. We need to make sure that the qualifications continue to meet the workforce and employers’ needs, and reflect current and emerging roles,” says Rod Bentham, Careerforce General Manager for Learning Solutions.

Bentham says that as the NZQA appointed qualification developer for health and wellbeing qualifications, Careerforce is required to undertake this regular review.

He says that the aim is to conduct a transparent and collaborative consultation and review process among all the stakeholders including Tertiary Education Organisations, employers, and peak bodies.

“The Qualifications Pathway Review (QPR) presents a great opportunity for us to engage with stakeholders, and seek feedback to ensure qualifications are needed, remain fit for purpose and lead to meaningful career pathways for graduates.”

Careerforce is taking a phased approach in the review to allow stakeholders the time to actively participate in the consultation and engagement process. The approach is designed to review suites of qualifications to ensure the pathway is correct, that skills are relevant and any gaps are identified.

For 2018, the following suite of qualifications listed on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) will be reviewed:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2)
  • New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) with strands in Health Assistance, Orderly Services, Support Work, Newborn Hearing Screening, Vision Hearing Screening, Whānau, Kin and Foster Care
  • New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 4) Advanced Support

The Careerforce programmes review will be undertaken once the qualification review has been completed.

Careerforce encourages everyone to provide their feedback, with online consultation open until 24 August.
